    Unicorn Magic

Hello crafty friends, it’s Lisa here today with you on the blog!  This months new release includes some great dies that will let your creativity run wild!  These are nested dies in 4 different shapes that have scalloped edges with detailed stitching inside.  There are rectangles, ovals, squares and circles.  For my unicorn card I used the largest Stitched Scalloped Rectangle Die to make a top folding card.  I folded my card stock in half and placed the die on top with the top edge of the die off the card and sent it through my die cut machine.

I love this technique because I don’t have to add an extra layer to my card but I still get the decorative edge to my top layer. The result is a top folded card with pretty edges and some detailed stitching.

The next step was to cut an oval scalloped circle out of white paper to build my unicorn on.

I used the Magical Unicorn stamp set by Pinkfresh Studio to decorate the oval.  I started by prepping my paper with my Inkadinkado Embossing Magic Pad and then I stamped the unicorn horn with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with Hero Arts gold embossing powder. I used the matching die to cut out the horn.  Next I stamped the eyelashes directly on to the oval in Versamark ink again and I heat embossed it with black sparkle embossing powder. It is important to prep your paper with the embossing magic pad before using black embossing powder so that you don’t have any stray powder on the white paper.  Once the powder is melted you can’t erase that stray powder.  After stamping and embossing those pretty eyelashes I had to give my unicorn some pretty blush and eye shadow.  For the blush I used Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink  and a Spectrum Noir Sparkle Marker together.  I smooshed some Worn Lipstick on to some acetate and then I mixed it with the Spectrum Noir Marker and used a dauber to sponge on some pretty pink cheeks.  I repeated the same process with some Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink for the eye shadow and I applied it with a thin paint brush.

For some extra special sparkle I stamped the star stamp from the Magical Unicorn set in Gold Delicata ink next to the eyelashes.

After the makeup was done I worked on the headband. I used the matching dies from the Magical Unicorn set to cut out some pretty pink flowers and I used the Lawn Fawn Flamingo Together stamp set to add some pretty green foliage to the headband. To add some shine I die cut a gold glittered swirl border die and tucked it under the largest flower.

For a final shiny touch I added 3 Sparkling Clear Solid Confetti pieces to the middle flower.

I clear embossed the sentiment after I stamped it in Versamark ink to make it shine.

I popped up the oval on foam tape and applied it to a light green card base and the card was done.  I just love all the sparkle and shine on this card.

    Triple-Layered Word Die Cuts

Father’s Day is coming up soon and Kat has some great options for masculine cards in the shop including the new Happy Father’s Day word die.  I love that this die is all one piece so you can easily pop it on the front of a card with some embellishments and have a quick and easy handmade greeting.  Today, I did a little bit of layering with this die and I really like the way it turned out.

To start, I die cut the word die into some black card stock and trimmed the panel at an angle.  I adhered a piece of white card stock behind the panel so my next die layer would have a shadow and a place to adhere.

Next, I adhered another layer of the Father’s Day die in black using my Zig 2-Way glue pen.  I offset it a bit to create the shadow with the white.

I added yet another layer in white and offset that.

To complete the look, I popped back in the little piece of black that was cut out when I first die cut the panel.  The Crystal Katana is helpful when working with these tiny parts.

I kept it simple by dry embossing a kraft colored card and adhering the entire word panel to the bottom corner with foam tape.

Here’s a close-up of the “triple-layering”.  I added some Midnight Blue Nuvo Crystal drops around the sentiment for a little bit of simple embellishment.

Rainbow Preview of the June Stitched Scalloped Dies

Hello crafty friends! I’m so excited to show you one of the new Kat Scrappiness die sets for the June release. These new Stitched Scalloped Shapes are so fun and versatile. Just wait until you see all the beautiful cards the design team has in store for you. I combined them with the Punny Snacks stamp set because it’s one of my favorite sets from Kat.

The inspiration for this card was seeing the dies stacked up as I made my design team haul video this month. I wanted to show what the dies looked like cut but loved the look so much I wanted to do it in rainbow. The Stitched Scalloped Rectangles are perfect for this. I cut all the different layers from a rainbow array of cardstock. I have a full video tutorial for you today that you can watch below or on YouTube.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blpXgJgL0bw]

After I had my layers cut I realized the red layer would be too small and decided to find another way to incorporate red to complete the rainbow. This is where the Punny Snacks set comes in. I thought the ketchup bottle would be great but knew I was more likely to use a thank you so I decided to color up a soda cup red and use the “You’re too sweet” sentiment.

    Congrats Graduate

Hi Friends! kel here today to share a fun card for a special graduate!! But you could totally use it for any other congratulatory occasion!

This card is for a friend whose son is graduating from high school. The school’s colors are blue and orange… but I stuck the yellow in there just to mix it up a little bit. I used the brand new rectangle scallop dies to make my card (I used the 2nd to the largest die). And it’s a good card to use your scraps with too… since you really only see one corner of the die cut piece you can use pieces that are just large enough to fit what’s visible!! I finished my card off with some baker’s twine and the “congratulations” sentiment from the Everyday Brush Strokes stamp set.

I’m really happy with how this card came out and look forward to giving it to the new graduate! Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon! Don’t forget to take part in our awesome monthly challenge for your chance to win a $25 Gift Card!!

    Flag Flowers Thank You Note

Hello, crafters!  Thanks for joining me for today’s card project.  I was playing around with the Stitched Flag Dies from Kat Scrappiness and realized that I could make some fun flowers with them!  Being a lover of all things floral, it was easy for me to see the dies used in this way.  And with just a few added embellishments to complete the look, I really like how they turned out.  So let’s go through the steps of how I made this card.

The very first thing I did was cut out 8 separate flags.  I used the smallest flag for this, which still makes a good-sized flower for a card front.  You could absolutely use any card stock or patterned paper you like – the whimsical nature of these flowers encourages you to think outside the box.  I knew I wanted to use an assortment of papers from a single 6×6 pad, so I chose a more subtle tone-on-tone pattern for my petals.

To join the “petals,” I simply taped them end to end in pairs, then joined two pairs into a cross shape.  To finish the shape, I offset the crosses so that you get a nice little “flower” with equal spaces between the petals.  For added dimension, you could add another layer of petals underneath cut from the next bigger size flag die.  Or you could also gently bend the petals upwards so they “cup” a bit and will lift off the card front.

For my flower centers I found a layered floral die set in my stash and cut the starburst shape in dark brown card stock.  I then added two circles of yellow, the larger one in a deep sunflower yellow and the smaller circle in a buttercup yellow.  For my leaves I found a Doodlebug cut file in my Silhouette Cameo and cut two of them from a pretty spring green card stock.  If you don’t have dies like this, you could use a small scalloped circle die for the dark brown, and add a yellow brad to the center.  There are TONS of options, so just start playing and go wild with your flowers!

The spring green polka dot and the blue woodgrain papers are both from the same patterned paper pad, and even though the blue paper wasn’t long enough to go across my card front, I absolutely loved it and had to use it.  I cut a piece of the dark brown card stock that was just 1/4″ taller than the blue for matting, then I added the thin strips of polka dot paper behind that.  Since the blue and green are both paper, this triple layer piece isn’t very thick when it’s all together.

I knew that I wanted my flowers in a little cluster off to the left, so I lined my layered panel up to the right side of my card front.  I’m using an A2 size (4.25×5.5″) top-folding card as my base.  I stamped the sentiment from the Dad’s Tools Layered Stamp Set by Kat in Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink.  I love how crisp and clean this ink stamps!  It’s great for stamping sentiments  🙂  After the stamping was done, I arranged the leaves first and then added the flowers on top, popping them up on foam tape and slightly overlapping them.  The final step was to bring in a bit more yellow by adding Nuvo Crystal Drops in the Dandelion color.  I can’t say enough good things about these drops, and I encourage you to get a bottle or two and give it a try.

And that’s a look at the final card.  I hope that you enjoyed this project as much as I did – I’ve already made this card in 3 different color palettes, and I’m going to try different flower centers, too.  Don’t forget to share your own Kat Scrappiness creations with us for a chance to win prizes each month.  If you’d like to purchase the KS Stitched Flag Dies or the Dad’s Tools Layered Stamp Set, you can use discount code “CYNTHIA10” and receive 10% off your entire order.  Happy crafting!

    Mini Treat Bags

Hello again crafty friends!  It’s Lisa back today on the Kat Scrappiness blog to bring you another cute project!  I made 3 adorable mini treat bags using the Stitched Heart Tag die and I decorated them with the Stitched Flag dies and the Double Stitched Circle dies.  I have a video for you today to show how I assembled the bags and it’s super easy to follow.  I have to thank my fellow Kat Scrappiness design team member Maria Russell for the fabulous idea to make the bag.  She did a video a while back showing the process and I remade the bags using some current stamps and dies.

This is the bag I assembled in my video and I used a sentiment from the Punny Snacks stamp set.

The pretty patterned paper is from the Lawn Fawn paper pack, Gotta Have Gingham .  I started with 2 die cut panels from the larger die in the Stitch Heart Tag dies. I then cut a coordinating piece of paper to 11 7/8″ x 2″ to attach the 2 die cut panels together.  Next you will score your paper on the 11 7/8″ side at 4″ and 7 7/8″ and then you will score the paper 1/4″ in from both sides on the 2″ side.

After you score your strip fold on all the score lines and make 4 snips up to the point where the score lines meet each other.

The next step is to place some strong double sided adhesive along the middle sections to adhere the 2 heart tags.

Next you want to apply some additional double sided tape to the remaining scored flaps and assemble the box accordingly.

The video will show the assembly process step by step.  The only thing left to do is decorate the front of the box and fill it with pretty tissue paper and treats!

I die cut several Stitched Flag dies from some more gingham paper and arranged them around one of the Double Stitched Circle dies.  I stamped a sentiment from the Punny Snacks stamp set on to a scalloped circle and adhered it to the circle on some foam tape.

I made the same box with some different patterned paper but essentially followed the same steps.

I also created the same bag a third time for the Coffee Lovers Bloghop that Kat Scrappiness is a super sponsor for.  I used the Layered Coffee Cup die and the “Got Coffee” sentiment die for the front of the bag and I finished it off with a sentiment from the Technique Tuesday stamp set “Sassy Coffee”

I stamped the sentiment on to a Stitched Tag die and finished off the front panel with some paint splatters of Ground Espresso distress ink.

These treat bags are super fun to make and they are very quick and easy to assemble.  They would make great party favors for a kids party or even elegant favors for a wedding or anniversary party.

Here is a link to the YouTube video showing how to assemble these cute bags.

Thanks for joining me today,  I hope you’ll give this technique a try!
