    Coffee Card with a Video

Good morning Kat Scrappiness fans!  It’s Lisa here today and I wanted to share a coffee card that I made that has a fun technique to go with it! I used the Fabrika Decoru Enamel Drops to make that cute heart embellishment for the front of the coffee cup.  I have a video for you to watch that shows exactly how I made it.  Some of the artisan coffee shops have the ability to put cool designs into the foam that you see on top of their drinks.  This technique I will show you mimics that look and can be reproduced on your cards!  The Fabrika drops are available in so many colors so the sky is the limit to what you can create!
For my card I used one of the new stamp sets that was just released in the shop called
Let’s Get Caffeinated.  I stamped one of the cute sentiments onto a
Stitched Scalloped Nesting Tag die with some Distress Ink in Ground Espresso.  I tied a twine bow with multiple layers so it would really have some dimension.  I placed the Layered Coffee Cup die with the Fabrika heart embellishment on the front of the card and the sentiment on some foam tape and the card was done.  The background of the card was cut with the largest die from the Stitched Scalloped Rectangles in some pretty polka dot paper.
The assembly of the card was fairly easy so I won’t go into too much detail in this post.  The technique with the Fabrika enamel drops is easier explained in the video.

  • Flowers on Wood

    Flowers on Wood

Welcome to the Kat Scrappiness blog.  It’s Lisa here with you and I have a quick post to share. I wanted to show you two cards that I made using pretty florals on a wood background.  The first card uses bright flowers on a dark wood background. The sentiment is from the Crafters Gonna Craft stamp set.

The second one uses pastel flowers on a lighter wood background and the sentiment is from the Everyday Brushstrokes stamp set.

I’ve always loved the combination of flowers and wood together!  The Stitched Scalloped Collage Frame Die  on the first card and the Stitched Diagonal Backdrop Die on the second card created the perfect backgrounds to achieve these 2 looks.  The 2 cards came together fairly easily.  I used some wood patterned paper for the backgrounds and some flower dies from my stash.  To give the flowers some dimension I inked the edges of the pastel ones and dry embossed them and for the bright flowers I lifted the edges off the card.

To add some bling to my cards I placed some Sparkling Clear Flower Blossom sequins on the flowers and around the edges.  I hope you enjoyed the cards today, I will be back next week with some new cards using some exciting new stamps and dies from our September release so make sure to check back then!

If you haven’t entered our monthly card challenge yet make sure to do so!  You still have today and tomorrow and you could win a $25 gift certificate to the shop! Get out your coffee and critter stamps and dies and click here to enter!

  • Crafty Cards Two Ways and a Giveaway!

Crafty Cards Two Ways and a Giveaway!

Welcome back to the Kat Scrappiness blog!  Today I have a real treat for all of you crafty guys and gals out there!

Kat has a new stamp set available in her store this month that is dedicated to the crafter in you!

    It’s called Crafters Gonna Craft!

It has all kinds of crafty themed stamps but I think my favorite one is the marker, or maybe the scissors, or maybe the sequins….  Oh well obviously I can’t decide!

The other thing I have a hard time deciding on is what style of card making I like the best. My favorite style is definitely soft colors and a shabby chic theme but I also love to mix it up with bold colors and graphic elements.  I guess I just love to try new things.  Today I thought I’d make two different style cards with the same stamp set.  The first card is bold, bright and graphic.

For this card I started out with some Bristol smooth paper and inked the background with Twisted Citron and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide inks.

The next step was to take all of the stamps from the Crafters Gonna Craft stamp set and arrange them randomly over the inked background and stamp them repeatedly in different positions.  I made sure to stamp some of them off the page to give a more random look.

After I stamped all of the images I trimmed the panel down with the largest die from the

Distressed Edge Rectangle die set. I spritzed the panel with water droplets to give it a more distressed appearance. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark Ink onto black card stock. The card stock was cut with the smallest die from that same die set and heat embossed with white powder to make it really stand out.  I popped the sentiment up on foam tape to give it some dimension.  To finish off the card and give it a little bit of shine, I added some Sparkling Clear Solid Confetti in the 4mm and 6mm sizes.

For my second card using the same stamp set I turned to my personal favorite style, soft and shabby.

I wanted the graphics on this card to have a very soft look so I pulled out some of my favorite shabby chic patterned paper and stamped the 4 main elements on it and hand cut them out.  I cut a white panel using the largest die from the Stitched Scalloped Rectangle dies and stamped the heart randomly in two different colors and they look as if they are floating around. I used the pretty patterned paper to cover the bottom of that panel.  For the focal point of the card I die cut a tag from the Stitched Scalloped Nesting Tags and embossed it with a pretty script embossing folder. I adhered the glue bottle, marker, scissors and pencil to the tag and covered the bottom with a pretty piece of white lace from my stash. I topped off the tag with a pretty twine bow at the top in mint green to match the color scheme. I stamped the sentiment “Happiness is handmade” under the tag in black to really make it stand out.

To finish off the card I added some Fabrika Enamel Drops in the color Gentle Shabby all around the card. What an appropriately named color for this card!

It always amazes me how different a card can look using the exact same stamp set! The sky is the limit when you are creating and it is one of my most favorite things about this hobby.

If you can dream it, you can create it!

  • Heart Shaker Card

    Heart Shaker Card

Hi everyone! It’s Lisa up on the blog again today to bring you a pretty little shaker card!  I have the privilege of introducing some new products that are available in the shop this month. One of the products is a set of nested Stitched Scalloped Heart dies and the second product is a set of Stitched Scalloped Border dies. I’m just loving the combination of the scallops and the stitching together!  I used the Stitched Scalloped Border dies to cut some white card stock and I popped it up on foam tape over the patterned paper on the bottom of the card front.

I made a shaker element out of the Stitched Scalloped Heart dies and filled them with the 2 sequin mixes, the 4 mm Sparkling Clear Solid Confetti Mix and the 3 mm Transparent Coral Hearts.

There are over 400 sequin mixes in the Kat Scrappiness shop to choose from!

Shaker cards are so much fun to make, I hope you’ll give one a try and thanks for stopping by!

    SPARKLE AND SHINE!

    SHAKER CARD CRAZY with!

For my card I filled those panels with the dreamy Fairy Dust Confetti Mix.

I used the Pinkfresh Studio stamp set Magical Unicorn for the fun unicorn horn and headband and I also used the Avery Elle Star Frame Die to add some gold star embellishments to the headband. For some added greenery in the headband I used the tree die cuts from the Lawn Fawn Flamingo Together stamp and die set.

So I admit this card is a little over the top but if you need a birthday card for a pre-teen girl in love with unicorns then it’s just perfect!

  • Mini Notecards by Lisa

    Mini Notecards by Lisa

    Good morning Kat Scrappiness fans!

It’s Lisa here on the blog today to bring you a sweet mini trio of notecards. I have an easy technique that I think you are going to like. We are going to make mini notecards using the nested dies we all love and reach for all the time for our regular sized cards. The finished size of each card is approximately 4 1/8″ x 2 3/4″. What you need is the largest die from any of your nested die sets.  I’ve used rectangles but squares would work as well.  The 3 nested die sets I’ve used are the Stitched Postage Stamp Edge Rectangles, the Stitched Scalloped Rectangles and the Wonky Wavy Stitched Rectangle Dies.

For my trio of sweet cards I used patterned paper for the card base for some color and variety but any paper or cardstock would work.

After I die cut the largest size die from each set, I folded the paper in half to create a mini card.

Then comes the fun part! Decorate to your heart’s desire! I added a white piece of cardstock to the front of each mini card and stamped a background with florals and then popped the focal points up on foam tape. I used the Scripty “Hello My Crafty Friend” die as the sentiment on 2 of the cards. I finished each card off with some pretty twine and 3 sparkly sequins from the Barbie Sequin mix. I stuck with the rule of 3 to place my sequins down and it was just the right amount of added sparkle.

Since the card base is made from dies that have decorative edges, your cards will have 3 fancy edges that are so pretty!

Making these mini notecards is a cinch and they come together so quickly!  Kat’s nested dies are the perfect size to create these mini cards. It might not be a new technique but it sure is fun! Small notecards are perfect for lunchbox notes, quick thank you cards or for any occasion that calls for a quick small card! For some added fun you can make your envelope out of the same patterned paper to match your card.  The possibilities are endless!

  • Patriotic Birthday Card

    Patriotic Birthday Card

    Good morning Kat Scrappiness fans!

I hope everyone who celebrates the 4th of July had a safe and enjoyable day yesterday!

In honor of the 4th I thought I’d use the new

Crafter’s Essentials 1 dies to share a patriotic birthday card with you!

The Crafter’s Essentials dies have 13 individual dies in the package and there are literally an endless number of combinations available for making cards.  These dies are a cardmaker’s best friend! There is a great picture showcasing 9 different sketches as examples using these dies in the picture shown below.

My card was a quick and easy one to make and I decided to use quite a few different embossing folders on the card to give it a lot of texture.

I used polka dot folders on the card background and mini polka dots on the letters from the Condensed Lowercase Alphas.

The smaller white panel was embossed with a brick background folder and the circle die was run through my paper crimper to give it some texture as well.

I heat embossed my sentiment from Everyday Brush Strokes on to the blue strip across the circle in white.  I popped the circle, stars, white panel, sentiment and letters on foam tape to give it even more dimension.  Here is a picture of all the supplies used.

Head over to the shop today to take advantage of the sale going on.  15% off storewide and a free sequin package with all orders!
