Father’s Day Card with Dad’s Tools

Hello my crafty friends, Maria here with you today on the blog!  I hope you are all having a great week so far.  Father’s Day is fast approaching and it is time to honor all the AMAZING dads out there.  The new Dad’s tools – 6×8 Layered stamp setis perfect for this type of occasion, or you can even make just-because cards.  It doesn’t always just have to be for one day out of the year.  I know if my Dad were here, I probably would make him a card at least once a month.

I started out by stamping my images on Neenah solar white card stock, using my Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Platform.  I think it is a must-have tool for stamping layered images.  Since this stamp set did not have matching dies, I used my Brother Scan N Cut2 to die-cut the images.

I used the biggest of my Cross Stitched Rectangle dieto die-cut the blue patterned paper taken from the Gotta Have Gingham Petite Paper Pack 6×6 by Lawn Fawn.  I then used the third piece of the Cross Stitched Rectangle dieto die-cut a piece of silver card stock. I placed this card stock onto my We R Memory Keepers embossing folder and run it through my die-cutting machine to emboss this piece.

I adhered my blue patterned paper onto my card base and then layered the embossed silver cardstock on top for my foreground.  On another piece of white card stock, I die-cut the word Dad with the Uppercase Condensed Alphabet Dies.  To give it some dimension, I used my foam adhesive to adhere the word Dad onto my card.

I stamped the sentiment on a black card stock with my Versa-mark ink and used my white embossing powder then set it using my heating tool.  I also adhered the hammer and screwdriver images from the stamp set.  I finished the design by adhering my blue enamel dots on the four corners of my silver card stock embossed piece.  Here’s the card.

I honestly struggle with masculine cards so designing this was a bit of a challenge for me.  However, I love how this turned out.  Here’s a close-up look:

Stitched Fishtail Banners – Two Cards

IHi everyone, spring has finally arrived here in Oklahoma!  I’ve got two cards today that feature the new Kat Scrappiness Stitched Fishtail Banners in spring colors.

For each card, I used all four dies in the Stitched Fishtail Banner die set and cut them out of pattern paper.  I staggered the die cuts and adhered them on the left hand side of each card.  For the first card, I used a sentiment from the Everyday Brush Stroke stamp set, stamped it in Versamark ink, covered it in black embossing powder, and heat set it.

On the second card, I used the Happy Birthday sentiment from Dad’s Tools stamp set.  I stamped it in Versamark ink, covered it in white embossing powder, and heat set it.  I then adhered sequins from the Breezy Summer sequin mix from Kat Scrappiness.

    Masculine Cards with Dad’s Tools

    Hello again Kat Scrappiness fans!

It’s Lisa here on the blog today to bring you some Father’s Day/Masculine card inspiration.  If you’re anything like me, masculine cards can be difficult.  I know for me, most of my projects involve the color pink and lots of sparkle and shine.  Up until now masculine cards have been a chore because I’m not inspired by the color schemes or the focal points.  This month there is a new stamp set in the Kat Scrappiness store that has breathed new life into the masculine card world.  Step aside feminine layering stamps because Dad’s Tools are making their debut!

    Dad's Tools

The new Dad’s Tools stamp set at KS gives a fresh new look to dad’s old toolbox.  There are 4 different elements in the stamp set to layer and decorate with.  There is a hammer, a screwdriver, a nail and a screw and so many fun sentiments to play with.

I found it helpful to swatch some gray and brown colors before I started my card to see what combinations would look best when I started stamping the layers of my tools.  I used the heart stamp from the Swatches  stamp set to make this visual tool and it was quite helpful.

With layering stamps you want to start out with your lightest color ink and add progressively darker layers as you go.

For my first card today I decided to  recreate a fun toolbox and fill it up with some of Dad’s Tools.

I cut down a standard A2 card base into the shape of a toolbox and gave it a front panel which doubled as a pocket so I could fit the hammer, screwdriver and some nails and screws into it. The white embossed sentiment “Happy Birthday” fit perfectly onto one of the Stitched Fishtail Banner Dies which is also one of the new releases this month in the Kat Scrappiness store.

I layered the sentiment onto a second darker fishtail banner and added the

“Mr. Fix It” sentiment under the banners.

For my second card today I went with a more traditional card and I used only the hammer and screwdriver from Dad’s Tools for the focal point under the sentiment.
I used patterned paper for my first layer and a faux pegboard piece of paper for my second layer.  I cut both of those layers out with two different size dies from the Wonky Wavy Stitched Rectangles dies to give some added interest to the borders.  For the focal point of the card I used another one of the new releases this month called Stitched Flags.
    Stitched Flag banner dies
The shape of these new dies is so unique and can be used alone or with a sentiment for a fun element on your cards.  I stamped the sentiment “Happy Father’s Day” from Dad’s Tools in Versamark ink and white heat embossed it onto one of the Stitched Flags.  I mounted the Flag onto some foam tape for some extra added dimension.

Make sure to check out what the other girls on the design team have done this month with the Stitched Flag dies!  There is so much talent and creativity, you will definitely want to add these dies to your collection!

    Happy Birthday Cards

Hi it’s Crystal and I’m really excited to be a guest designer here at Kat Scrappiness for May! When I first saw this banner die I knew I wanted to do something with lots of color.

For my first blog post I have two cards to share with you today. I really love to watercolor and I have seen a lot of people watercoloring with Tim Holtz Distress Ink so I thought I would give it a try.  I just got them a few months ago and have not had a chance to play with them yet. As always when watercoloring you should tape your paper down so it doesn’t warp as bad but I don’t have much patience so I skipped that step. But I was not to worried about it warping since I was going to be die cutting it afterwards. I added water to my paper first then brushed the colors on in different random spots letting them mix a little bit at the edge. I’m not sure why but watercoloring is so relaxing.

After it was dry (I used my heat tool to speed up the process I don’t have patience). Then I took the three shorter banners and ran them through my die cutting machine. Then I took a scrap piece of watercolor cardstock and die cut a circle.

Laying out the banner die cuts in to a circle changing the size and color randomly into the circle till I had a arrangement I was happy with.

I stamped Happy Birthday from the new Dad’s Tools stamp set with VersaMark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

I then layered on to my card base Crafter’s Companion Shimmer Gold cardstock, then a small pattern of paper then the circle. Then add some sequins from Kat Scrappiness’s store for a little detail.

I only needed half of my water colored background for my card so ended up just going ahead and die cutting the other half of my water color cardstock with the banner and making another card.

    Supplies I used:

    Love Our Life Together

Hello, everyone! It’s Siqi here. Today’s card is going for a love theme but a no-pink-and-red color scheme.

So, I first stamp a turnabout stamp from Concord & 9th called Heart Turnabout Stamp with some embossing ink just one time, and added some silver embossing powder for embossing resistant. I then chose some teal and blue colors from Distress ink line and did ink-blending throughout the entire panel. I then trim down about 1/8 inch each side to make it be slightly smaller than an A2 size notecard.

For my sentiment, I die cut the love word die from Love Notes Dies by Neat & Tangled out of some white cardstock three times and adhere them all together. I also die cut the shadow die of the word out of some vellum, to adhere it under my word die cut.

For the banner, I actually use a banner die from Stitched Fishtail Banner Dies by Kat Scrappiness. I used the second biggest die from this die set, However, it is a bit shorter than my sentiment. So, I did some partial die-cutting on each end, and move the die off set lengthwise between die-cutting, to get a longer banner that fits my sentiment. It’s a great tip to get more life out of what you have, and also saves money so you don’t have to buy all different sizes dies.

I stamped the sentiment “our life together” from the Love Notes Clear Stamps by Neat & Tangled on the banner and use the same silver embossing powder to heat-embossed it.

I used foam tape for adhere my card panel on an A2 size top-folding black notecard, and adhere my word die-cut and banner onto it as shown.

To finish it off, I added some Kat Scrappiness sequins that coordinate with the color scheme of this card.

I hope you like today’s card, and thank you for stopping by today. Have a wonderful weekend!
