    “Let’s Celebrate” Birthday Card

Hello, crafters!  Thank you for joining me today as I create a fun, shaker birthday card using the new Kat Scrappiness Crafters Essentials #2 die set.  This set contains a full cover-plate die with chevron cutouts and full stitched detailing.  The complimentary pieces can be used to enhance this cutout piece, or used in any combination you desire.  For today’s project I decided to use three different dies, so let’s go ahead and get into the details.

For the cover plate die, I found this awesome sheet of 12×12 birthday paper in my stash.  It already had the “Happy Day!” sentiment on it, as well as the colorful dots, so I let that set my color scheme.  I also cut out a strip of blue card stock so that I had all the little chevrons in that pretty color.

On the backside of my panel I ran a strip of double-sided tape over the cut out openings (you can see it in the picture above.)  Then I just laid the blue chevrons into place, which fit perfectly like puzzle pieces.  This really took very little time, but it still creates a very pretty look.  I could have used multiple colors for this step, but I didn’t want it to end up too busy.  Too many individual colors vying for attention on a single card will end up looking messy instead of fun.

For my next step I cut the stitched flag die out of a sunny yellow card stock, and then cut a stitched square out of the center which will become my shaker window.  The square die is from the new Kat Scrappiness Crafters Essentials #1 die set.  As an accent piece, I also cut the little stitched banner die from some black card stock.  I’m so glad that my patterned paper had that black circle on it – black is my favorite accent color to use!

For my shaker window, I added a piece of acetate to the back of my flag piece and let the liquid adhesive dry thoroughly.  Not all tapes will hold the acetate securely, so if you’re not sure, just use a nice paste adhesive that dries clear and you’ll be fine.  I added some foam tape pieces around the backside of the flag, both to secure the sequins from spilling out and also give them a little room to shake around.  You’ll notice that I trimmed the top edge of my flag to better fit my card, otherwise it would cover the Happy Day! sentiment.  I then added this super colorful “Rainbow Splash” Kat Scrappiness sequins mix to my shaker and secured it to my card.

For just a bit more color, I sprinkled in a bit of the “Hearts On Fire” Kat Scrappiness confetti, which is a great mix of different sized hearts in a lovely shade of red.  I particularly like that these hearts aren’t glittery – they are neutral enough to fit into many different kinds of projects.

The final touch was adding the little black banner.  I happened to find a stamp from a birthday stamp set that fit it perfectly, so I stamped it in VersaMark sticky ink and then added my Hero Arts White embossing powder.  This powder always melts smoothly, and isn’t too thick even for delicate letters like these.  I popped this banner up on foam tape as well and let the one end slightly overlap my flag piece.

And that is my finished card!  I hope that you enjoyed this project as much as I did, and that you give shaker cards a try if you haven’t already.  Kat literally has hundreds of sequins and confetti options in her shop, and you’re sure to find many mixes you can’t live without!  Also, be sure to use my discount code “CYNTHIA10” to receive 10% off your entire order.  Thanks for reading my blog post today, and happy crafting!

Easy Peasy Cards using Crafters Essentails II Dies

Hello everybody and Happy Friday!!!! Design Team Member Jana here today, stopping in to share another easy-peasy super quick card tutorial with you all. Today I am showcasing two card that I created in just under ten minutes using the newly released Crafters Essentials II Dies by Kat Scrappiness.

To begin, I started off by creating my two card bases using 110lb. white Recollection Card Stock. I cut each piece of card stock down to 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side creating an A2 sized card measuring 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″. I then used the Crafters Essentials II Dies by Kat Scrappiness and die cut my pieces out of card stock from the Doodle Bug Design Inc. “Fun In the Sun” double-sided 6X6 Paper Pad.

I decided that I wanted to use the cut-aparts from the paper pad as my sentiments for my cards. For the first card I chose the “Hello Sunshine” cut-apart and fussy cut it out.

I then used my Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive (my favorite adhesive at the moment!!), to adhere all of my die cut pieces onto my card base.

To finish off my card, of course I had to add some sequins (because who doesn’t love sequins !?!?) Kat Scrappiness has the most amazing sequins!! I went with the Neon Summer Sequin Mix and pulled a few different sequins out of the mix and applied to my card using the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

For the second card, I again used the same die cuts from the Crafters Essentials II Dies by Kat Scrappiness and die cut my pieces using the Doodlebug Design Inc. “Fun In the Sun” double-sided 6X6 Paper Pad. Only this time, I wanted the die cut arrows to be on both sides of my paper. To do this I flipped the paper over and aligned it up perfectly with the die cut and ran it through my machine again, giving me the die cut arrows on both sides of my die cut.

Again, I decided to go with a simple cut-apart from the Paper Pad and fussy cut it out.

I adhered all of my die cut pieces as well as my fussy cut sentiment onto my card base using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

And to finish off my card, I decided to add some fun bright Nuvo Crystal Drops in Apple Green, Caribbean Ocean and Carnation Pink.

And that completes my two easy-peasy cards for today using dies from just one die set.

I hope that you enjoyed today’s quick tutorial and it has inspired you to create you own “easy-peasy” cards as well (which we would love for you to share with us here at Kat Scrappiness!!)

“All Boy” Card with Crafters Essentials 1

Good morning, crafters!  Thank you for joining me for today’s blog post where I make a card using five different dies from the Crafters Essentials 1 die set.  This versatile die set has endless possibilities – I’ve been using it all month and haven’t made the same card twice!  Let’s go ahead and dive into some of the details.

I’ve mentioned before that I have a tendency to mostly make feminine cards, which is something that I’m working on.  There are plenty of masculine and gender-neutral papers and stamps out there, I just need to buy some!  Luckily, I had this older paper pad in my stash, and I absolutely love the passport stamp design.  The little diamond paper is the perfect balance to it, and I matted each of them on some dark navy blue card stock.  This helps define the edges, separate the layers, and give the whole design a visual pop.

I cut the large, stitched flag piece out of a pretty orange paper and added my sentiment stamp directly on top.  I used my favorite stamping ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black.  The little banner and the star were cut from more of the same papers, which coordinate perfectly.  I love using these tone-on-tone papers for details because they give the illusion of using a solid color, but still have a subtle pattern.  The final touch was to add three dots of the Nuvo Glitter Drops in “Orange Soda.”  The color was just perfect, and the glitter is subdued enough that it doesn’t seem too flashy.

And that’s my finished card project for this week.  For an in-depth look at the making of this card, please watch my YouTube video here.  I hope that you enjoyed this one, and got a few ideas about mixing patterns and colors.  Be sure to grab a set of these dies for yourself – there are so many classic shapes and “must haves” in it.  Please be sure to browse through all the other designs for this month on the blog. The design team members have really outdone themselves, and you’re sure to be inspired!  Happy crafting!

    Crafting Happiness

For those of us who craft, the statement on this card rings true.  The happy calm we feel when stepping into our craft space is like no other!  Even if it’s just for fifteen minutes or so :).  Today’s project uses the recently released Crafters Essentials 2 die set along with Echo Park’s Eat. Sleep. Craft. stamp set.

The big background panel in the set is perfect for the graphic style sentiment stamps.  I arranged a couple of the sentiments utilizing the chevron arrows to create the movement of “eat, sleep, craft, repeat”.  I really like the sunburst die included in the set.  It’s perfect for cute little focal points like the sewing machine.  Notice the design “triangle” I made with the stamps and the sunburst.  This is a design principle I love using for CAS cards.

I stamped, colored and cut out the little sewing machine adding a little Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen for fun.  I actually have a fun, flowered sewing machine in my craft area that I need to use more.  Threading that bobbin just throws me off every time, LOL!  Someday…….:).

I adhered the sewing machine to the sunburst with some foam tape and the entire panel was adhered to a lavender notecard with more foam tape.

Here’s another card I made with the die set using the big fish tail banner.  I love how wide the banner is.  Perfect for block-style sentiments.  This sentiment is from the same Echo Park set I used in the previous card.  I die cut 2 banners in Crafter’s Companion Silver Spotlight Shimmering Cardstock to back the main banner.  A few drops of Liquid Mercury Nuvo Crystal Drops highlight the sentiment.

Thanks so much for joining me today.  Be sure to head over to the Kat Scrappiness shop and feel free to use my coupon code: Heidi10 to receive 10% off your purchase.

    Let’s Taco About It

Hi everyone, happy Taco Tuesday!  I have a fun card for you today featuring several Kat Scrappiness products.

I used Gina K’s Wreath Builder Template to create a wreath of tacos.  If you haven’t seen the wreath builder, check it out.  It is awesome and the possibilities are endless.  I stamped the tacos and then added the smiley with glasses in Memento Tuxedo black ink.  I then colored them with Copic markers.  The sentiment is on one of the Stitched  Fishtail Banners from Kat Scrappiness.  I stamped it with Versamark Ink, covered it with white embossing powder, and heat set it.  All the stamps are from the Punny Snacks stamp set from Kat Scrappiness (still one of my favorites from Kat Scrappiness!)

I then die cut the largest Stitched Scalloped square in red cardstock, matted my taco wreath on that, and added it to my green card base.  This finished card is a 4 inch square card.
