“A Day At The Zoo” Shaker Card

Hello, crafters!  Cynthia here with my last blog post for the August 2018 Kat Scrappiness release.  For this card, I chose to use the Stitched Scalloped Collage Die, the KS “Sea Coral” sequins mix, and an assortment of Doodlebug papers and images.  This new collage die is just perfect for making shaker cards, so that is the style of card I chose to make.  There is a detailed video link at the end of this post, so please be sure to watch as I work my way through the entire process.

I couldn’t resist using some die cut pieces from Doodlebug’s At The Zoo collection for my card project.  I picked three animals that fit perfectly in the three sections of my collage die, and found three different papers from the coordinating paper pad.  I used a fourth paper in polka dotted orange for the top of my shaker because it tied all of the elements together, and also tied in to the “Sea Coral” sequins mix.  I was so excited when I realized they were a perfect color match!  I will definitely be grabbing a few more bags of this mix with my next Kat Scrappiness order 🙂

I hope that you enjoyed this project, and that you will watch my video.  I go into the details of assembling this card, and also how I made it into a shaker.  If you haven’t yet made one yourself, this collage die might be the perfect way to start.  You can use the entire piece as a shaker like I did, or isolate one or two sections for a partial shaker if you’d like.  It also works beautifully on non-shaker cards as well 🙂  Please be sure to look at the August blog posts from the Design Team to see the different ways that the team has incorporated this die into their work.  I think you’ll be inspired!  I will see you all again next month with even more amazing new products – have an awesome day!

    Flowers on Wood

Welcome to the Kat Scrappiness blog.  It’s Lisa here with you and I have a quick post to share. I wanted to show you two cards that I made using pretty florals on a wood background.  The first card uses bright flowers on a dark wood background. The sentiment is from the Crafters Gonna Craft stamp set.

The second one uses pastel flowers on a lighter wood background and the sentiment is from the Everyday Brushstrokes stamp set.

I’ve always loved the combination of flowers and wood together!  The Stitched Scalloped Collage Frame Die  on the first card and the Stitched Diagonal Backdrop Die on the second card created the perfect backgrounds to achieve these 2 looks.  The 2 cards came together fairly easily.  I used some wood patterned paper for the backgrounds and some flower dies from my stash.  To give the flowers some dimension I inked the edges of the pastel ones and dry embossed them and for the bright flowers I lifted the edges off the card.

To add some bling to my cards I placed some Sparkling Clear Flower Blossom sequins on the flowers and around the edges.  I hope you enjoyed the cards today, I will be back next week with some new cards using some exciting new stamps and dies from our September release so make sure to check back then!

    Eat Sleep Craft Repeat….

Hello everybody! Today I am excited to share another quick and easy card tutorial with you all using some amazing Kat Scrappiness products. This month Kat Scrappiness released some amazing new products and I really just can’t get enough of the new stamp set “Crafters Gonna Craft”. So let’s get started…

To begin, I created my card base, which is an A6 sized card (4 1/2″ x 6 1/4″) using 110lb. white Recollections card stock. I then cut down a piece of black card stock to measure 4 3/8″ x 6 1/8″ and then cut down another piece of white card stock to measure 4 2/8″ x 6″. These will be my card mats.

I then used the Condensed Uppercase Alphabet Dies by Kat Scrappiness to spell out the word “REPEAT” and die cut the letters out of Doodlebug Design Inc. classic double-sided card stock.

Using the Crafters Gonna Craft 4″ x 6″ Clear Stamp Set by Kat Scrappiness, I stamped my sentiment, “Eat Sleep Craft” on to the white card mat using Memento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink. I then took the two “scribbled lines” stamps from the set and stamped them in various spots throughout the card mat using six different colored ink cubes from Hero Arts which I had in my stash from a kit that I had received from them.

After I was satisfied with my stamp placement, I used Nuvo Delexe Adhesive to adhere the die cut letters to the bottom portion of my card mat.

I then adhered the mats onto the card base, but I wasn’t done yet. It is a crafty card, and in my opinion, a crafty card is nowhere near complete without some type of added embellishment or bling. So of course I reached for some White Jewels by Kat Scrappiness and adhered them throughout the card using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.

And there you have it….. another completed crafty card using amazing and fun new products from Kat Scrappiness.

I hope that you enjoyed this quick tutorial that I put together for you today and it has inspired you to create some of your own crafty cards as well.  A list of the supplies and products I used are listed below for your reference. Heart-In-Heart Double Shaker Card

Hello again, crafters!  Boy, it sure doesn’t feel like a week has gone by since my last post.  Between vacation, house guests, and getting ready for a new school year, I don’t which end is up anymore!  But luckily I always have my craft supplies to come home to, and this week’s project features both the new Kat Scrappiness Stitched Scalloped Heart dies, and a pretty mixture of sequins and jewels.  Let’s go ahead and get into the details.

I started off by die cutting two hearts, the pink one in the largest size, and the mint one two sizes smaller.  I chose these colors because of the Kat Scrappiness “Mint Sparkles” sequins and the “Pretty Pink Jewels” I wanted to use.  In order to make my shaker element the way I wanted, I needed to turn these solid hearts into frames.

To accomplish this, I very lightly drew a pencil line around the inside of the stitched line on each heart.  This line is only a general guide to keep you on track as you cut.  I used my long-handled X-acto blade for the cutting.  I refer to this tool as my “razor blade on a stick,” to remind myself that it’s lethally sharp and not to get too reckless when I use it!  Slow and steady is the best way to use it, not pressing too hard.  When you’re all done, with fingers intact (!), gently erase any pencil lines with a good eraser.

I cut two more hearts of the same sizes out of acetate sheets, then used a strong adhesive to attach them to the backside of my frames.  I used some clear tape to tack down the small heart within the larger one because I wanted it to stay in place.  I then trimmed down some long strips of Scotch foam tape, peeling off the release paper so that it’s completely pliable.  It’s very easy to run it along the curves to get the perfect edges around your hearts.  You want to be careful here because this foam will be the “wall” holding in all of your tiny shaker elements, and you certainly don’t want them coming out.  I then set this piece aside for a bit to work on a background panel.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how much I love to create my own patterned paper, and this was the perfect opportunity.  I found some pretty “Bubble Gum” pink ink and “Mint Macaron” to create a simple plaid design.  To this I added some stitched line stamping in a glittery gold embossing powder.  This helped bring some bling to the card, as well as matching some of the awesome sparkle in Kat’s sequins and jewels!

Once my stamping was done, I layered this custom piece onto some of the same pink card stock as before.  Using a matting layer like this is a very easy way to give your card a finished, polished look.  Then I attached the layered piece onto my card base, which for this project is a white 5″ square card.

Now for the bling!  I started by pouring some of the “Mint Sparkles” sequins into the smaller heart, then added just a few of the tiniest Pink and White Jewels.  I poured more sequins into the bigger heart, then added both colored jewels in an assortment of sizes.  I made sure that the jewels would be face-up in the shaker window so that the facets would sparkle.  The shaker is too shallow for them to flip over, but roomy enough to allow them to slide around.  If you ever find your shaker is too shallow for the filler you want to use, simply add a second layer of foam tape on top of your first to get a deeper shaker.

Does anyone else save their sentiment until the last step like I do?  Sometimes I can really paint myself into a corner doing that, but this is why banner dies are such a life-saver.  I easily found a simple “You Have My Heart” sentiment that fit perfectly into this die from Kat’s “Crafters Essentials 1” die set.  I heat set it in the same sparkling gold embossing powder I used in my plaid background on the same mint card stock as my heart frame.  Again, this consistency in products is what’s going to bring all of your card elements together in the end.

And that is my finished card!  I just love the soft colors, and it was all inspired by those gorgeous sequins!  I am definitely going to be stocking up on this mix because I never want to run out of it 🙂  I hope that some of the ideas I shared this week will inspire you to try them, especially nesting a shaker within a shaker.  To pick up any of the supplies I used today, please follow the individual links, or use the shopping link below to get started.  Don’t forget that you can also use my discount code “CYNTHIA10” to save 10% off your entire purchase.  I’ll see you again at the end of the month, and have a crafty day!

    Fun With Scallops

This month in the Kat Scrappiness shop, there are lots of new dies featuring a scalloped detail.  I love scallops– so I thought I’d do a couple of projects and a video using the Stitched Scalloped Border Dies and the Stitched Scalloped Heart dies.

For the first card, I die cut multiple pieces using the border dies and blended ink onto the panels.  I adhered them in a “swooping” fashion down the front of my card for a pretty scalloped rainbow.

For my second project, I created a cute window card layering the hearts.

This card would be perfect to add to a little gift bag of chocolate…….

I have a video below showing how these projects came together.  This will be my last post for the Kat Scrappiness Design Team.  It has been such a great year and I want to thank all of the talented ladies on the design team and Kat for all her encouragement and generosity.  Best wishes and happy crafting!

    Boo!

Hi everyone!  I am ready for fall, how about you?  I live in a college town – there is always a buzz around town when school starts and football begins.

After Christmas cards, Halloween cards are my favorite.  I love the bright colors and cute characters!  Today’s card features the Stitched Diagonal Backdrop Die by Kat Scrappiness.  It is such a versatile die.

I die cut this out of orange paper and backed it with a piece of purple polka dotted black paper.  I die cut and colored with Copics the cute little monsters from the Monster Mash stamp set and dies from Lawn Fawn.  I used foam adhesive to pop up the monsters on the card.  I kept the sentiment simple with the word boo in jewels from my stash.
