3 Ideas & Techniques with the Butterfly Backdrop Die

Hi everyone! It’s Lindsay Adreon, from Crafting While Caffeinated Blog & YouTube Channel, here with you today. I am super excited to be guest designing today with Kat Scrappiness! This past release, the new Butterfly Backdrop die was release and when I seen it, I had so many different ideas for it I couldn’t choose just one, so I picked three to share with you today! Be sure to watch the video tutorial below to see three different ideas and techniques you can use with the new Butterfly Backdrop Die from Kat Scrappiness!

My first card is definitely the most shiny of the three! I love using glitter and making a full glittered background with this die is easier than you might think! Be sure to watch the video above for all the details. But I did want to tone it down just a touch so I added a border to the top and bottom of the card using the new Zig Zag Border dies. I also added a few Brown Jewels from Kat Scrappiness to give this card a few finishing touches!

My second card is super easy and can be completely customized to fit your card recipient or card making style. I started by die cutting a piece of heavy weight white card stock and kept both pieces. Behind the large piece I added an ink blended panel and then popped up the little butterflies back over the panel. I did add a little fold to the butterflies wings so they would have a lot of dimension!

For my final card, I used the die cut as a stencil! This is one of my favorite ways to use large background dies like this. And because this card was so simple, I wanted to add a little more interest by making a shaped card base. I used the new Zig Zag Rectangle Die Set from Kat Scrappiness to create the card base. Be sure to watch the video above to see how easy it is to use the dies to create fun shaped card bases!

I hope you all enjoyed the three different ideas and techniques I shared today to use with the Kat Scrappiness Butterfly Backdrop Die! I’ve listed and linked all of the Kat Scrappiness products I used on each of my projects down below. Thank you for letting me spend a bit of time with you today! Happy Crafting!!

  • A Happy Hello Featuring Crafter’s Essentials 2

    A Happy Hello Featuring Crafter’s Essentials 2

I’m so excited to share today’s post because we are launching a new product at Kat Scrappiness called Crafter’s Essentials 2 die set.   This set includes 8 steel rule dies.  You can also pair them up with the Crafter’s Essentials 1 die set and you will have endless design possibilities.  Here’s what it looks like:

I made two cards today to showcase the Crafter’s Essentials 2 die set and I have a process video for the mermaid card that you will see below.

For my first card, I used an older stamp set from my stash and made a simple card.   I love the stitching details  on the banner and the bigger dies.

I also used the Everyday Brush Strokes stamp set for my sentiment.  Don’t you just love the chevron pattern on the big die?   Here’s another look:

I added some black dots on the card base to give it a little bit more dimension.  Here’s a little close-up:

For my second card, I wanted to create a happy, summer-themed card.  I used a stamp set that I recently purchased with this cute cat mermaid.  I also used the Sunscape stencil die by Newton’s Nook Designs.

I started out by inking up some Bristol smooth white card stock with Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade distress oxide ink with my mini ink blending tool.  Since I have a process video for this card, I will keep this blog post short.

I inlaid the little chevron pieces on my card.  I also added the Sparkling Clear Jewels to make them look like bubbles.  Here’s a little close-up:

This card makes me happy.  I love the colors that I used and this die-set is a must-have!  Here’s another look:

  • Star Shaker Card with DT Member Cynthia

Hi, crafters!  Cynthia here with a new video on how I made this Star Shaker Card.  I was very inspired by Kat’s Breezy Summer sequins mix to make something colorful and fun, so I reached for the Kat Scrappiness Swatches stamp set and pulled out the solid star stamp.  I am a BIG fan of making my own background panels, and this stamp set makes it super quick and easy.  I selected two yellow inks and a soft blue (to match the sequins colors), then decided to add some shiny silver embossing.  I found a small, solid circle stamp to include in my panel, which really helped fill in any small gaps between the stars.  I encourage you to take a look through your own stamp set collection and see how many of these small accessory stamps you might have.  They are the perfect way to add little details to your projects!

I don’t know about you, but I used to be very intimidated by making shaker cards.  Yes, there are multiple steps to the process, but it really isn’t anything to be worried over.  My favorite way to make them is to create them as a separate element that I can attach to the front of my card.  You can make any shape that you would like to use – even a star!  I actually used my Silhouette Cameo 3 machine to create a star that was exactly the right size for my card front, but you could easily use dies to do it as well.  The “sandwich” of layers I used (from bottom to top) is as follows:

    • Yellow card stock star
    • Foam tape layer
    • Sequins mix
    • Acetate piece
    • White card stock star frame

The final touch was to add a sentiment.  I used the “congratulations” from the Everyday Brush Strokes stamp set, heat embossed in the same shiny silver as the polka dots.  The adorable stitched banner is a little sneak-peek of more Kat fabulousness to come!  (Shhhh, don’t tell the boss!)  I really hope that you like this card as much as I do, and that you give shaker cards a try if you haven’t already.  Please watch my video (linked below) to see my entire process from start to finish.  Thank you so much, and I’ll see you all again soon!

Happy Weekend! Angeline here to share with you a Christmas holiday crafty project I made using lots and lots of Kat Scrappiness goodies. If you have gift cards to giveaway for Christmas, why not make a cute gift card holder for it right? 🙂

Then, it’s time to design my own gingerbread man using the Design a Gingerbread Man Die by Kat Scrappiness. You can make so many designs and colors of gingerbread man using this die! Just imagine the fun possibilities. I also stamped the “Got Cookies” from the Naughty Christmas Stamp Set with Matching Die by Kat Scrappiness. • Turtle Waves card with Angeline

    Turtle Waves card with Angeline

Happy mid week! Angeline here to share with you a turtle card I made. But wait — Can you believe that it’s already the last day of August? *WOW!* Time flew by just like that — so STOP for a minute and check out the NEW VIDEO I have for you at the end of this post 😀

Today, I will be showcasing the NEW Kat Scrappiness Waves border die and the Hero Arts Color Layering Sea Turtle stamp set.

For the turtle, I used the WRMK Precision Press Plus stamping platform to stamp the layers. You can also use the Tim Holtz stamping platform which Kat has in her store. It works pretty much the same. The stamping platform will help you in placing your stamps more accruately, re-stamping and even stamping many stamps at one time! Seriously, you will want to get one.

Then I cut out many different pieces of vellum and patterned papers using the Kat Scrappiness Waves border die — then stacked them in different heights to get the dimension. I adhered the turtle in between the waves — as if he was swimming in it. I also stamped and fussy cut out some seaweed from the same stamp set.

Finally, I added some Sequins & Bits – Custom Sequin Mixes & Shaker Card Fillers by Kat Scrappiness [Jack Frost & Clear sparkling drops] coz I always LOVE Kat’s sequins. Just the perfect touch to any card.

  • Nuvo Glimmer Paste Background & Lola the Giraffe with Angeline

Nuvo Glimmer Paste Background & Lola the Giraffe with Angeline

Hi there! Angeline here to share with you a card I made today using the ever cute Kat Scrappiness Lola the Giraffe stamp set. I also have a process VIDEO right at the end of this post, to show you step-by-step on how I made this.

First, I created my glittery background using Nuvo Glimmer Paste – Golden Crystal and Nuvo Glimmer Paste – Peridot Green. These glimmer paste are just sooooo pretty and shiny! Plus, it dries fairly quickly and the glitter does not rub off when it is dried. SCORE! I used The Crafter’s Workshop stencil “Mini Daisy Clusters” with the glimmer paste and wa-la — my very own shimmery background!

Then I embossed the thank you sentiment from the Hero Arts Thank You Messages stamp set on some vellum, then popped Lola the Giraffe on some foam adhesive — and I am done!

Here is the process video on how I made this card.

Owl Nuvo Mousse Tag with Angeline

Hi my dear scrappy friends. Angeline here to share with you a tag I made using the brand new Kat Scrappiness Cute Layered Owl die. I also have a NEW VIDEO to show you how I made this tag step-by-step at the end of this post 🙂

I first cut out the tag using Kat Scrappiness Stitched Scalloped Nesting tags die (I am using the largest size here). What I like about these mousse is, they are so pretty in color and it dries fairly quickly!

Then I assembled the pieces from the Kat Scrappiness Cute Layered Owl dieand blinged up the owl using lots of Nuvo Drops [colors listed in the supply list below]. I stamped the THANKS banner from the Hero Arts Thank You Messages stamp set, and fussy cut it. I also cut out the circle from Kat Scrappiness Double Stitched Circle die.
