    Love is in the Air

    Happy Saturday to all,

Creating a slim line Valentine today using Kat Scrappiness dies. This is a clean and simple card for when you have to make a card and do not want to ink.

I cut a standard 3.5 x8.5 inch base in black card stock. Next I die cut a layer using the Kat Scrappiness “Zig Zag” slim line die in a salmon card stock. Finally I cut a white layer to size leaving only a zig zag boarder.

Now for the focal images, I die cut hearts in three colors using Kat Scrappiness “Embossed Edged Heart” Die. I found that five rows of two fit nicely onto the white layer.  For the sentiment I die cut the words love and you using the Kat Scrappiness “I Love You” shadow die Set. I cut the words twice, once in black and once in salmon. I stacked them using an offset to create a shadow behind the sentiment. I added a few sequins and the card is complete.

    Clean and Simple

    Hello,

Today I am sharing a clean and simple all occasion card using a Die from the Kat Scrappiness collection. These type cards are great to have on hand for those unexpected times you need a card but no time to create one.

I die cut the full card front out of white card stock using the Under the Sea cover plate die.

I made a white A-2 card base and a teal layer one layer.

To finish the card I layered all together using foam tape and adding a white ribbon and bow. The inside sentiment will determine for what occasion the card will be used.

  • Hello Crafty Friend

    Hi Everyone!

Today I have a couple of projects using the Swatches stamp set from Kat Scrappiness.  These are great stamps to use to keep track of your inks, watercolors and Copics, but they’re also great for all kinds of stamping projects.  I love using geometric designs on my cards, and that square was calling my name!  The new Hello Crafty Friend word die is the perfect compliment to these colorful cards.

I have a video below showing my process, plus some tips for using solid stamps.  I have all products from the Kat Scrappiness shop linked below.  Be sure to use my coupon code Heidi10 to receive 10% off your purchase.  Have a great day!

  • Happy Heart Day!

    Hi Everyone!

Today I have a card featuring the versatile Large Alphabet Dies by Kat Scrappiness.

The letters make such a nice focal point, I wanted to attach a few together to make an almost chipboard-like embellishment.  I first adhered black “fun foam” to the backs of 2 Xs and 2 Os using liquid adhesive.  This not only gives more thickness, but also gives a nice shadow effect.  You could use other colors as well and those would look great too!

I then clustered the Xs and Os together so they fit nicely, adhering them with flat glue dots.  This bold embellishment would be really great on a scrapbook page too!

I’ve been in love with Lawn Fawn’s new How You Bean?-Conversation Hearts Add-On stamp set.  The little hearts are so fun to color with Copics!  This time, I went with bright colors to offset the black and white of the letters.

After laying out my design, I wanted to stamp a few of the open hearts and a sentiment directly on my card.  I used my Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Platform to be sure I got everything straight and close enough together.  For a graphic card like this, being precise is very important for the look.

Copics tend to show through cardstock if you color directly on it, so my remedy for that is cute patterned paper.  I took a strip of paper from Lawn Fawn’s Perfectly Plaid Rainbow Petit Paper Pack and added it to the inside of the card where the Copics ran through.  The paper coordinates with the front of the card and adds a cute detail to the inside.

Thanks for joining me today!  I hope you’ll try this clustering technique with your letter dies.  It’s a fun way to make a bold statement on the front of your card.  All the supplies from the Kat Scrappiness shop are linked below.  Be sure to use my coupon code Heidi10 to receive 10% off your purchase.

  • Die Cut Delights– Plus, Heidi’s top 10

Die Cut Delights– Plus, Heidi’s top 10

Hi Everyone!  It’s Heidi and today is all about die cuts.  I’m a clean and simple card maker and I love my die cuts.  I think it’s something about the crisp and clean look and the ability to do simple layers.  They just make me happy!    Today, I have a couple of cards featuring the Kat Scrappiness brand dies.

First up, is a clean and simple card using the Woodlands Reindeer die along with one of the Never Ending Oval dies.

I started off by cutting an oval out of white cardstock then cutting the reindeer die into that.  I’m saving the die cut portion for another version of the project.

I adhered a rectangle of blue glitter paper to go behind the reindeer oval.  I wanted to create a simple silhouette that “pops”.  I thought about a shaker, but I thought the crisp blue really highlighted the die.

After stamping a sentiment from Avery Elle’s Snowflakes stamp set, I adhered the oval over the glitter paper with foam tape.

Here is an alternate version of the card where I offset the positive image over the die cut opening with foam tape.

    Never Ending Oval die

    Avery Elle Snowflakes stamp set

    glitter paper

    foam tape

Next, I have a card using the new Distressed Edge Rectangle dies along with the All in the Family dies and Double-Stitched Heart dies.

I used the two largest sizes of Distressed Edge rectangles to create a soft backdrop for my hearts.

To create a kind of “tissue paper” look, I cut them out of vellum and colored the larger piece with a light blue Copic marker.

I love the soft layers–and I didn’t even have to tear paper!

I die cut multiples of the “family” die cut from the All in the Family set and glued them together to give it a 3D look.

The inside sentiment is from Technique Tuesday’s Classic Christmas Sentiments.

Since September, I have had the pleasure of being part of the Kat Scrappiness design team–I can’t believe how fast the time has gone!  I wanted to share with you my top ten favorite items from the Kat Scrappiness shop.  I love Kat’s shop, because not only does she have her own brand of awesome stamps, dies and sequins, but she carries other companies products as well.  Her “new items” section is regularly updated with all the latest products from Tonic, Hero Arts, Avery Elle, Lawn Fawn and much more.  Here are some of my favorites–in no particular order because I love and use them all!  Be sure to click on the links if you want to see them in the shop.

    1.  Foilables-Toner Graphics

Using a Minc machine or laminator,  you can create foiled sentiments or backgrounds easily using this printed toner paper.  In this post, I show a quick video demonstration of how to create a beautiful background using this product.

    2. Nuvo Drops

My go-to favorite for creating my own “enamel” dots without the little “peaks” you can sometimes get.  The variety of colors both soft and bright make me want to collect them all!

    3.  Nuvo Embellishment Mousse

This is my new favorite paste for creating raised designs using stencils.  The buttery shimmer of all the ice cream colors makes me happy!

    4.  Mudra floral stamps–Linen Blooms

I love using floral stamps on a lot of my projects.  Mudra has some gorgeous ones and the Linen Blooms is my favorite.  I’ve used this stamp set on two projects already.  Here and here.  I like that the set includes both solid and open flowers for colored inks or Copic coloring.  Plus, with a sentiment included it’s a perfect “starter set” for someone just getting into stamping.

    5.  Kat Scrappiness Never Ending Shapes Dies

I reach for these all the time.  So many size options for squares, rectangles, ovals or circles.

    6.  Sparkling Clear Droplets Sampler Pack

I’m a huge fan of enamel dots.  I like these clear dots that come in various sizes for when you don’t want the color, but you just want a little texture to highlight a sentiment or focal point.  Especially flowers!

    7.  Avery Elle Snowflakes clear stamp set

Another great stamp set that offers variety.  Different sizes of intricate snowflakes along with some nice sentiments will get you through an entire winter season.

    8.  Coffee-themed products

It’s fun to make these types of cards and Kat actually has a section dedicated to coffee.  Tons of cute stamps as well as coordinating sequins.  My favorite is But First Coffee from Echo Park–lots of great sentiments.

    9.  Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy

A great tool when you’re multi-stamping and need to change colors.  One quick swipe and your stamps are squeaky clean.

    10.  Stitched, Scalloped Nesting tags–Kat Scrappiness

Three sizes offer so many options.  I love the scalloped and stitched detail along the bottom of these tags as well as the largest one that is perfect for the front of a gift bag.

A few other things to note:
