Hello crafty friends! Stephanie here. Today I’m going to show you how I created this lovely bokeh effect on my shaker card.
I’ve included a video below showing how I created this card, along with some detailed photos and links to all of the products I used.
I started out using the largest of the Stitched Scalloped Rectangle dies by Gina Marie Designs to cut some kraft cardstock. I then cut an oval out of the center using the Double Stitched Oval Dies by Kat Scrappiness.
Next, I used my Stampoholic Nano to stamp my sentiment so I could make sure I got a good solid imagine using my VersaMark Ink. The So Very Blessed stamp I used for this card is by Neat and Tangled. It fits perfectly in that oval opening, and they’ve used such a beautiful scripty font. It’s just a gorgeous stamp. I’ve heat embossed this on vellum to create the front of the shaker. By doing this it creates a soft filtered look, and with the sequins behind it you get that lovely bokeh effect.
I embossed the edges of my card base to match the sentiment because you’ll be able to see it peeking out from the scalloped edges of the kraft cardstock. I simply took my VersaMark ink pad directly to the edges of the cardstock and sprinkled on my embossing powder.
Next I added my center oval piece and adhered some sequins. I used this White Diamond Sequin Mix by Kat Scrappiness. It includes three different sizes, which is perfect for the look we’re going for. I glued some of the sequins down to the oval piece so all of the sequins wouldn’t just fall to the bottom, and left some loose so they would move around when you shake it.
I added a natural twine bow to the front panel, and then used foam tape on the back of that panel to create my shaker area before adding it to the card base. I finished off the card with some scattered sequins using that same White Diamond Sequin Mix and my card is complete.
I love the subtle muted look you get when using sequins behind the vellum. I also love the contrast between the natural twine and kraft cardstock against the elegant platinum embossed sentiment. Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my card. Please let me know if you decide to try this technique. I’ll see you next time!
