    Out of the Box

    Hello Kat Scrappiness fans!

I am very excited to be posting my first design team project for Kat Scrappiness.  Today I am sharing a fun new project using one of the adorable new stamp sets available this month.  It’s called Punny Snacks and it features some really cute food stamps and some cute punny sayings.  I decided to think “outside the box” for my project and create a mini pizza box to hold some small note cards that are food themed as well.  This little box could also be a 3-D card by itself or it could hold a gift card as well.

When I first got my hands on this fun stamp set I immediately broke out my copic markers and colored up all of the cute little food stamps.  I made a chart showing the exact colors I used for each stamp to save me time later when I wanted to use them again.  Here is the chart all colored with a list of all the copic markers that I used if you’re interested.

The only marker I didn’t list was the colorless blender, marker “0”,  which I used to draw some color away from the hamburger bun to give the appearance of seeds.

The first thing I did was create the mini pizza box to put the note cards in.  It looks complicated but in my video I will show you step by step how to assemble this cute little box.

The next step was to decorate the top of the box with some traditional red gingham patterned paper to match the decor of a real pizzeria.  I added the sentiment “you have a pizza my heart” to the top and I hand cut two slices of pizza to pop up on opposite corners of the box.

I then made 5 cute little notecards to fit inside of the box.  I used the rest of the food stamps and funny puns to decorate the top of 5 mini note cards.  I used the Stitched Postage Stamp Edge Rectangle Dies to showcase the stamps and sentiments on the cards.

I just love how they all look together with all those fun colored images!

The last step was to decorate the inside of the box so it could be used on its own as a 3-D card or gift card holder.  I colored and cut 6 slices of pizza and assembled them on a white circle to resemble a pizza pie.  Just for some added interest I used a paper crimper to give some texture to the bottom piece of paper in the box and make it look like corrugated cardboard.  I also added the sentiment “we’re made for each other” to finish it off.

This was a super fun project to make and you can see the process

in the video below or on YouTube.

    Happy Happy Birthday

Hello, everyone! It’s Siqi here today with my first blog over at Kat Scrappiness Blog featuring some new products that are released this month. The one I chose to work with is Everyday Brush Strokes Stamp Set. In today’s card, I chose to go with a very delightful and refreshing aqua color scheme mixed with a little gold to add some interests.

I used several different brush stroke stamps in this stamp set to  stamp randomly on my cardstock panel with 4 Lawn Fawn ink colors . After creating the background, I prep my panel with anti static powder tool and stamp the smaller brush stroke image with Versamark ink then sprinkle on some gold embossing powder and heat-set it.

After done with the panel, I trimmed it down to be slightly smaller than an A2 size notecard. I adhered a piece of craft foam on the back side of my panel and stick it down on my card base.

For the rest of my card, I used the biggest word shadow die from Honey Bee Stamps Happy Die set with some vellum, and the Happy word die 4 times with some white cardstock. I did a little ink-blending using Lawn Fawn Mermaid ink on one of the Happy word that will go on top. I adhere all 4 together on top on the vellum piece and stick on my cardbase.

I also white heat-embossed the sentiment “happy birthday” from the same Everyday Brush Strokes Stamp Set on a thin strip of black cardstock. I trimmed the end at an angle and adhere it on my card with some foam tape.

To finish it off, I added some clear sequins from Kat ScrappinessTurquoise Sunrise Sequin Mix here and there for some extra interests.

I hope yo like today’s card and remember the new awesome along with the other two new stamp sets are on sale right now, you can also use the coupon Siqi10 to get 10% off you order! Happy Crafting!

    You Totally Rock!

    Hi Everyone!

This month is an exciting one over at the Kat Scrappiness shop.  Three new stamp sets were released and today, I get to work with the new Rock Candy Layered Stamp Set!  This is a 4-step layering stamp that is so easy to use.  Like all of Kat’s layering stamps, lining them up is a cinch especially with a stamp platform.  Today, I wanted to really highlight these fun stamps by doing a repeat stamping project.

To make it super simple, I drew some diagonal lines on my circle-shaped card base so I could easily line my stamps up and down the card.

I used a variety of colored inks to create a rainbow pattern of rock candy with the help of my Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Platform.

    Here’s a look at the inside–more circles!

Although this is a 4 step layering stamp, you don’t actually need 4 variations of the same color.  You can simply choose 2 or three and double or triple stamp some of them to get darker versions.  I’ll show you in the video below.

Soda Distress Oxide Ink Background for Punny Snacks Stamp Set

Hello crafty friends! I’m so excited to show you one of the new Kat Scrappiness stamp sets for the March release. I absolutely love this Punny Snacks stamp set and know it will be used over and over. My favorite thing is that the sentiments work for a variety of occasions and are not all love based as I have seen in the past.

The inspiration for this card was trying to create a background that evoked the snack from the set. I decided to try to create the look of soda with Distress Oxide ink. I have a full video tutorial for you today that you can watch below or on YouTube.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFcQd19aCP8]

I started by stamping the soda cups in a row with the sentiment underneath. Then I masked off that area to make my ‘soda’ background. I covered the area with Distress Oxide Vintage Photo, dried it and then sprayed the background. I like the look of spraying and then dabbing to remove more color. I think you would be great results with traditional Distress Inks as well. I will be sharing another Punny Snacks card on my personal channel soon and I can’t get enough of this set!

    Modern Vintage With Heidi

    Hi Everyone!

For today’s card, I wanted to give you a little peek inside my thought process when I’m creating a card….I was in the mood for Spring.  Fresh, light colors, bright blooms, happy sentiments….I wanted to do the “homespun look” of vintage linens, but with a modern feel.  I gathered some supplies together not knowing exactly what my plan was.  Sometimes I do this if I have a little bit of an idea, but I’m not sure exactly how I want to lay out my card design.   Once I see all the supplies in front of me, then the card starts to come together in my mind.  I chose Mudra’s Botanical Blooms stamp set and paired it with Kat’s Wonky, Wavy Stitched Circle dies.   I love the purple-y blue dotted Swiss paper in the Doodlebug 6×6 pad: Swiss Dot Petite Prints, so I added that too.

Next, I was pretty sure I wanted to use a coral-pink ink for the flowers so I stamped a bunch of the flowers and leaves using my stamp press.  The flowers from the Botanical Blooms stamp set are 3 step layering stamps.  A little trick I like to do to “season” my solid stamp is to use an eraser that doesn’t leave a lot of shavings and rub that over the top of the stamp.  This gives it a little texture so the ink can really grip to the clear stamp.

I heat embossed a strip of light gray cardstock with a sentiment from Mudra’s Wild Rose stamp set using white embossing powder.  After that, I decided to a cut a strip of the Swiss dot paper.  Those strips, combined with the stitched circle, I thought would look nice as a collage on the front of a crisp, white, notecard.

The bottom flower was a little too big, so I just snipped off the lower part and added that to the card flush with the edge.  I did the same with the leaf cluster.  This is great to try anytime you add die cuts to cards.  It works with stamping too–just having things peeking up or down from the edges adds movement and flow.

If I’m not sure where to place sequins, I first take some old enamel dots I removed the “stick” from and place those around my card.  I cannot remember exactly where I got this trick from, but it has saved me from having to start my card all over again, LOL!

I used the gorgeous large blue sequins from the Fluffy Clouds mix along with the tiny silver-y white cupped sequins in the Fairytale Princess mix.

This card kind of reminds me of a deconstructed embroidery hoop that maybe contained a vintage handkerchief or napkin.   I encourage you to try taking a modern approach to an older style you like.  Maybe, take an older card you created a few years ago, when styles were different and give it a modern make-over!

Thanks so much for joining me today.  I have all the products I used from the Kat Scrappiness shop linked below.  Please feel free to use my coupon code Heidi10 at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase.  Have a great day!
