Hello, my crafty friends, I am back with a new blog and card! My apologies for not having found a good rhythm yet, but I promise I’ll do better. 😄 I hope you all like the card I share and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments.
Today, I’m excited to share a handmade autumn slimline card inspired by the beautiful fall season. Even though the weather is still quite nice here, it’s officially autumn, which means it’s the perfect time to play with warm tones, leaves, and nature-inspired designs.
For this project, I created a slimline card using several gorgeous dies and a stamp from Kat Scrappiness. If you’re new to slimline cards, they typically measure 3.5 by 8.5 inches—a fun size that gives you plenty of room to get creative. Do you make slimline cards often?
🧰 Kat Scrappiness Supplies Used:
- Autumn Foliage Dies
- Stitched Foliage Craft Dies
- Fine Line Flowers Craft Dies
- Festive Christmas Arrangement Craft Dies, for the pinecone
- Sunflower Funflower Duo Craft dies
- Stitched Wacky Frame Craft Dies, for the bow
- Autumn Lantern Add on Stamp, for the sentiment
- Chrystal AB Rhinestone Mix
- Kat Scrappiness Blending Brushes
📋 Card Details:
- As I mentioned, the card is a slimline. Start by finding a light-colored cardstock from your paperpads. I chose beige with a light ink smooch. I kept it light, because I didn’t want the background to steal the attention from the beautiful fall colors – those are the star of the show here.
- I started with a light piece of cardstock, and cut it using a slimline die, I chose a die with a stitched border because I love the look it gives, especially since it ties in with the leaves. But feel free to use whatever you have!
- You can set the background aside for now because next comes the fun part—die cutting! I always cut a bunch of everything I need. Most of the time, I end up cutting more than I need, but I’d rather have too many than not enough. 😜 For this card, I die-cut everything from white paper since I love to ink blend it myself. I always use Neenah Solar White cardstock because it blends beautifully, but use whatever you’re most comfortable with.
- I started by die cut all the leaves from the Stitched Foliage Craft Dies – I did cut them twice.
- Then, I cut the leaves from the Autumn Foliage Craft Dies three times.
- For the Fine Line Flowers Craft Dies I cut three times but only used the largest flowers. I cut three colors but ended up using only the red and yellow ones. Instead of the smaller flowers, I used two small flowers I already had on hand.
Tip: If I have any leftover flowers after making a card, I put them in a plastic container. This way, when I need something extra for another project, I can check if I already have something that works before starting a new die-cutting session.
- Next I used the Sunflower Funflower Duo Craft Dies and cut the flowers twice, but only used the flowers themselves (not the leaves).
- Out of the Festive Christmas Arrangement Craft Dies I took the little pinecone and die-cut it four times.
- Lastly, from the Stitched Wacky Frame Craft Dies I picked the middle bow and die cut it once.
- Now, it’s time to add some color! I used fall-inspired shades. I started with the leaves, blending yellow, orange, green, and a bit of red. After blending, I splattered the leaves with Distress Spritz in green, orange, and yellow. You can also use a Shimmer Spray, but this only gives the shimmer, no colored splatter.
- For the other elements:
- For the sunflowers, I started with yellow at the tips and blended orange near the center. The center itself has two shades of brown.
- The pinecones are dark on the lower layer and lighter on the top.
- For the bow, I chose red to complement the fall theme.
Blending Tip:
I used the Kat Scrappiness Blending Brushes because they blend beautifully! Their soft bristles make it easy to achieve smooth transitions without applying too much pressure, which helps prevent harsh lines.
Pro Tip: Always tap off your blending brush on a scrap piece of paper before bringing it to your project—especially when using darker inks. This ensures you don’t start with too much ink and gives you better control over the color intensity.
- I adhered the sunflowers and pinecones together.
- Then started arranging everything on the slimline cardbase. I began with the larger leaves and filled in the gaps with the smaller leaves. I always arrange everything first and then glue it all down. When the leaves were in place, I arreanged the rest of the die cuts.
- For the sentiment, I used the Autumn Lantern add on stamp choosing “Autumn blessings”. I stamped on the same paper that I used for the card base. I positioned it on the card and adhered the last die cuts and the sentiment. Feel free to use a bit of foamtape to give some elements extra dimension.
- I love adding a bit of bling to my cards, so I took my Crystal AB Rhinestonemix, (a must have!). I adhered a few in the center of the tiny flowers and the fine line flowers and two next to the sentiment.
And that’s it! I really hope you like this slimline card in autumn colors and that you give it a try! I love to see your version of this card with the Kat Scrappiness products – please tag me when you share it on Facebook or Instagram. Or leave a picture in the comments!
Thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope to see you next time!
Spoiler alert, I’ll be posting a second card by the end of this month, so keep an eye on this blog. ❤️
