Happy Halloween, crafters! I’m so excited that I get to post a blog right on Halloween itself. For the special occasion, I decided to pull out all the stops and get really creative. It would be easy to pare down this design to include just a few of the elements, but if you’d like to recreate this card exactly, keep reading to see all of the steps.
My first step was to cut my layering pieces for the card front. I cut a piece of black card stock at 4.25 x 5.5″ and a piece of Halloween patterned paper at 3 x 5.5″. Next, I cut two border strips with this adorable Kat Scrappiness Elegant Borders die set. There are lots of different possibilities with this very versatile set, and with seven separate dies, it’s easy to find just the right border design for any project.
I wanted to incorporate a few pumpkins into my design, and the new Kat Scrappiness Happy Fall Y’All stamp set was the perfect choice. I stamped them in black ink and heat set them with clear embossing powder, then colored them in with my Tombow markers. Aren’t they cute? I fussy cut them with my little snips, leaving a thin white border around the edges.
I used an A2 sized (4.25 x 5.5″) card base and attached my layering pieces with some tape. I ran the pretty border strips across the top and bottom, which shows up beautifully against the black. The pumpkins were layered on top, and I popped up the smaller one on a foam square.
To create a sentiment for this card, I decided to use the gorgeous Kat Scrappiness Black AB Jewels to spell out the word “Boo!” I picked out a bunch of the smallest ones and practiced laying them out to see how many it would take. I was very happily surprised to see that I could easily line them up and make nice, clear letters with very little fuss. Once I had used some dots of glue to secure each one down, I let it dry completely and then fussy cut around the jewels. I also layered this white piece onto black card stock and cut it out again. I secured the jeweled word to my card front, the popped up the little ghost on foam squares. His eyes are made with the small black jewels, too!
And there is my finished Halloween card! This one was an awful lot of fun to make, and I really hope that you like it, too.
