    Happy Birthday Cards

Hi it’s Crystal and I’m really excited to be a guest designer here at Kat Scrappiness for May! When I first saw this banner die I knew I wanted to do something with lots of color.

For my first blog post I have two cards to share with you today. I really love to watercolor and I have seen a lot of people watercoloring with Tim Holtz Distress Ink so I thought I would give it a try.  I just got them a few months ago and have not had a chance to play with them yet. As always when watercoloring you should tape your paper down so it doesn’t warp as bad but I don’t have much patience so I skipped that step. But I was not to worried about it warping since I was going to be die cutting it afterwards. I added water to my paper first then brushed the colors on in different random spots letting them mix a little bit at the edge. I’m not sure why but watercoloring is so relaxing.

After it was dry (I used my heat tool to speed up the process I don’t have patience). Then I took the three shorter banners and ran them through my die cutting machine. Then I took a scrap piece of watercolor cardstock and die cut a circle.

Laying out the banner die cuts in to a circle changing the size and color randomly into the circle till I had a arrangement I was happy with.

I stamped Happy Birthday from the new Dad’s Tools stamp set with VersaMark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

I then layered on to my card base Crafter’s Companion Shimmer Gold cardstock, then a small pattern of paper then the circle. Then add some sequins from Kat Scrappiness’s store for a little detail.

I only needed half of my water colored background for my card so ended up just going ahead and die cutting the other half of my water color cardstock with the banner and making another card.
